June 6-29 2017 Reception June 11, 2-5 PMWreck Ignition and From a Soldier's Boots: Gone, All In For The Red White and BlueWreck Ignition is an inspiring display of sculptural works by artist Rob Garrett. From a Soldier's Boots is a collaboration designed by Tom Drakulich using Combat Paper, with participation from local veterans. Rob Garrett Artist Statement I earned a BA in Fine Arts at UNR, but never applied it. Life happened, and now I’m in the twilight years of my military career. I work in an environment of defined rules and regulations, rank and file for everything, and I want to get back to my initial passion. A few years ago, I made some trophies out of car parts for a hot rod show. As I was gathering the parts from my garage, I realized how fun it was to create the designs, to see how the metal moved, to feel the intricacies of the gears, to smell the old, burn oil. I picture what the part did in the car, and how it feels being outside of its designated environment. I couldn’t stop taking old engines apart, learning how they worked, then recreating and morphing them into other uses. To repurpose something old and tired and mutate it into an expressive new energy is where I am too. A look at Rob's interactive sculptures!
